A Little Getaway : Part 4 of 6: Who’s Hungry?

6 Nov

Picnic TablesTime quickly passed and we soon reached the beginning of scenic Route 1A in southern Rhode Island. Route 1A is a 61 mile stretch of road that almost runs the entirety of the beautiful, Rhode Island coastline.

It was getting close to noon and we had sandwiches and other goodies packed and waiting in the cooler. I knew dad would be hungry as he always ate lunch at twelve, so, I asked if we could stop and have a picnic. The kids were already acting as if that hadn’t eaten for days, so I knew this was a perfect time to break.

“Lunch!” Dad barked loudly. “Who has time to stop & eat? We are driving straight through.”

I could feel my frustration building and could only wonder if the entire trip was going to be faced with such adversity. Before, I could let my frustration get the best of me though, I turned towards mom and Gini who were once again already in silent agreement. We knew that a frustrated reaction was not the answer. Instead, praising the Lord was in order. So, praise the Lord is just what we did.

Shortly after our third praise session of the day began, dad declared, “Who’s hungry?”

Delighted and thrilled on the inside, I wanted to shout but instead had my thanks overflow through more praise and thanksgiving to God (II Corinthians 9:12). I could see mom and Gini’s faces and knew that they were doing the exact same thing.

God did it again! We were elated that He was so faithful to us. Momentous it was and our faith was boosted. The devil gave up.

Dad soon stopped the car on top of a beautiful hilltop overlooking the majestic, Atlantic ocean. Then he joyfully helped everyone out of the car, unloaded the cooler from the luggage rack and spread blankets out so we could all sit comfortably in view of the gorgeous coastline.

Dad loved to take scenic photographs and took this opportunity to capture some beautiful shots of the ocean and surrounding beaches

That day I felt like heaven came to earth. Not only through the awe inspiring scenery that we were blessed with. That was stunning enough,
but it was more than that.

As we faced adversity, God interceded with His spectacular presence. My dad began the trip under his normal, regimented ways. His way or no way!

By lunchtime, though, things had changed considerably. Things that can only be attributed to the Lord touching our lives directly. How? Well, instead of still driving up scenic route 1A hungry, upset & angry, we were all enjoying a coastline picnic with a much different and peaceful man. The man who still was my same dad!
