Signposts Along the Way: Signpost 8 – Part 3 of 4: A Prayer Answered

20 Jun

During that same visit to Rochelle, I sensed an overwhelming desire to pray for her. Only I didn’t know how to pray or how to even breach the subject. Even though I was apprehensive due to my “spiritual inexperience,” I still had this urgency that overcame any awkwardness or shyness on the matter. It was that same urgency that brought me there in the first place (and kept me from leaving!) Whatever it was, it was still strong at work.

Looking back now, I  knew in my heart that God was a “Good God” and faith had been building in me. Only I didn’t know how to reach for Him at the time.

As I was about to voice my desire to pray to Rochelle’s family, I noticed something about them that I hadn’t noticed earlier. Everyone in the room – Rochelle, her husband, her parents and her two children – were surrounded with a beautiful, peaceful glow. Perhaps the experience was more of a sense of unbridled kindness & compassion, but this is the only way that it can be described. It was very powerful nonetheless.

This was my first experience with people so radiant and passionate.  They exuded true love equally towards their loved one as they did towards me – a complete stranger.

When I finally told them of my desire to pray, but that I was slightly embarrassed because I didn’t know how, they didn’t flinch. Instead they lovingly sensed my concern for their well-being (as well as my uncertainty) and comforted me by offering to pray together.
